Vocabulary…as teachers we know it boosts test scores, but it is often taught in dry monotonous workbooks that cause students to dread the lessons. As two sixth grade language arts teachers, meaningful vocabulary instruction is an issue we have struggled with during our teaching careers. Since there is no set vocabulary instruction at our middle schools, we decided that this topic would be perfect to research for our master work at the UNC Chapel Hill, with the idea in mind that we can implement this is our classrooms in the up coming years. Through testing out strategies we aimed to find, “Is vocabulary instruction effective on reading comprehension? “ and “ What is the best strategy for teaching vocabulary?” This blog has been set up to communicate our findings.
